Ya know Cody didn't really have a chance to play at any other high school. His family lives in Washington, his Father works in a factory in Washington, he grew up in Washington. I am sure the education and basketball knowledge he recieved will serve him well. His family has raised three fine young men who are very respectable, who have nothing bad to say about anyone(maybe some should treat them the same way) They can only play other teams in their class(post season), and I am sure they would love the chance to play BHSS for a true championship. With what I saw out of the 4A game, I think WHS would have game them all they wanted tonight.
Many places around our state a kid can choose which high school he will attend, thanks to our fine state politicians. If he wants to go to North Central or Lawrence North to play BB he can. If he wants to go Warren Central to play football he can. If wants to go to Perry Meridian for wrestling he can.
Cody and the Hatchets did the best they could do with the hand they were dealt. They won back to back STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS, and Cody won the Mental Attitude award. My hats off to them, not many teams have had the success they have had, regardless of class or no class system.

So you think Washington would like to play BHSS for a true state championship. Nice to see you think so little of Park Tudor and Indy Metro. From what I saw today Washington couldn't have beat any of the 1a or 2a finalist. Just remember Warsaw held Washington to 44 points at the HOF. The defense in 4a is just way better.

miyagi, from one 4a guy to another. Grow up and show some class. Your constant badgering of southern teams and their fans has become quite tasteless. Your people will name Cody Mr. Basketball. Everyone knows that the pollsters favor the Indy teams and yet they still give the Mr. Basketball to the Zeller boys. Do you think for a second that you see something that they don't? Hardly think so. I live in the Indianapolis area and have watched many games over the last couple of years and I will tell you, that Washington team that I saw today could have played with anyone in this area. Dan Dokich even said that he believes that Washington would have been playing in the 4A game had they been in that class. I have been reading many of the post on here and not one time have I seen anyone badger 4A ball. But then there is you. You really are from Carmel, because you people think your the almighty and anyone one else in this state is a bunch of trash. As I said before, grow up and show some class. If you want to brag about playing "big boy ball" you first have to be a "big boy" yourself. You obviously never played sports or you would understand the meaning of sportsmanship.

Who cares what Dakich thinks? That guy is a complete moron. Wasahinton played three 4a teams this year and lost to them all. No wonder they don't cut on 4a bball. If Washington played Carmel's schedule they wouldn't win 5 games a year. Take a good look at Bloominton South's road and the look at Washington's. As for Mr. Basketball, it has become a joke. How anyone can vote for a player in a smaller class because he went farther than a 4a players team is beyond me. I highly doubt that you have been watching bball in the Indy area over the last decade. More talent has come out of Indy area the last 10 years than anywhere else in the country.

Your people have made it a joke then. And I have more knowledge of basketball in my little toe than you could posses in 101 lifetimes. I find it quite amusing how your people, indianapolis pollsters and voters, are now the joke. You call everyone who doesn't agree with your vision a joke. Take a long hard look in the mirror buddy because it has become a "you" problem. The voters got the Mr. Basketball wrong in 2005 over your boy or Dominic James and your butthole still hurts from it.

What are you talking about? The award is given out by the Indy Star but coaches and sportswriters from around the state do the voting. There is definitely a bias against Indy teams and players because of that especially if the Indy player goes out of state for college. It looks like your knowledge of how Mr. Basketball is chosen is lacking which means the rest of your knowledge is probably lacking as well. I have to admit I don't have any bball knowledge in my little toe........all of mine is in my head were my brain is. However, your brain probably could fit in your little toe.

From what I saw today Washington couldn't have beat any of the 1a or 2a finalist. Just remember Warsaw held Washington to 44 points at the HOF. The defense in 4a is just way better. Kokomo only scored 42 in a championship game...so what does that prove??? WHS lost by a total of 6 points in 2 games to a couple of the best 4A teams in the state at the HOF, what does that say about BHSS in winning by 14 against the best the north could throw at them??? I think it is called equality in IHSAA basketball!! I am sure Washington would love to have played BHSS, PT, or IM if it were for the true championship. From what I saw today BHSS would have had trouble with any of the 3 winners today. I didn't diminish PT or IM in anyway by not mentioning them, my only reference to BHSS was because you feel that there is no other "quality" basketball other than 4A, don't think we really saw that yesterday. My feeling there is more talent in today's IHSAA than there has been in the history of Indiana HS basketball, which is a trend in basketball in general. How do teams like Butler, Virginia Commonwealth, Richmond, and others make a great run in the NCAA tourney when only a few years ago teams like that were called "mid major". It is because there is alot of good players out there who chose to go smaller schools and be successful instead of sitting on the bench at Duke, NC, or UCLA behind some MCD All American. They play in smaller conferences like the Horizon, MEAC, Colonial, or the MVC and people think since they play in a smaller conference they have less talent, but I think they are proving they are pretty good ball players...do you see a trend here... Just my thoughts...

Not at all. I am a huge Butler fan and have been for many years. Saying mid-majors to BCS schools is like 3a, 2a, and 1a are to 4a is just ridiculous. First mid-majors have to prove themselves in the same tourney as BCS schools. Second mid-major players are still D1 players and have to be very talented to get D1 offers. Third they didn't go out and vote in their own tourney to avoid playing the best because they are competitors and want to beat the best. As for mid-majors being more competitive now....yes they are. Why?, because the very best players turn pro after one or two years leaving the best BCS schools with fresmen leading their teams. As for the talent level of IHSAA bball I would agree at the 4a level and some private schools. However in the smaller classes I would totally disagree. The smaller classes no longer have to beat the best teams to win titles so their incentive to work harder is no longer there. Making the smaller teams much worse fundamentally on both ends of the court compared to before class bball.

Forgot the Kokomo only getting 42 coment. Like I wrote earlier, the defense in 4a is much better.

I have never seen the official vote stat from when they went to a 4 class system. I know that Princeton was not in favor of the class system, and the general consenus around Princeton is that they don't really like the 4 class system now even after winning a state championship.
I disagree with your assumption on the smaller schools being worse fundamentally because of class basketball, I think it enhances it. In one class what was the incentive for a school with 150 kids to practice hard, play a tough schedule etc. when you play a perrenial winner like Carmel in the sectional every year? How many did they win in a row, and how many have they won lately?? I think now the smaller schools see a chance to play similar size schools to win a state championship and practice harder and are more competitive now than they used to be. Only my opinion from what I see here in So. Indiana. (i.e. Forest Park, Tecumseh, Mater Dei etc)
You are correct D1 is D1 but not all schools make the tourney, only the 64 teams that won the conference tourney or were selected by the committee. How many non BCS schools made the tourney by selection? Many colleges voted in a conference tourney to get an automatic bid for their school/conference. Many current schools in D1 used to be D2, like Evansville who chose to go D1 for a chance to play the best. Not much luck in the tourney to this point after many D2 championships but they have a chance to make the big dance because of conference tourney's. Without the conference tourney's and automatic bids many teams that are doing well today may not have made it based on strength of schedule and the voters, due to not seeing them play because of limited TV coverage back in the day, thus the term"mid major" With all the media today teams get alot of TV coverage, there are games on cable all over the place, I watched Evansville beat Butler at Hinkle earlier this year, and now Butler is in the final 4 for a second year in a row...awesome...is Evansville a better team than Butler, no but they were that day... Good Luck Butler

Its not only the first vote but there have been other votes to bring back class bball. Many schools that voted against it voted for it the next time around. It really doesn't matter if the fans say they are against it. The principals voted for it. Every school also has the option to play 4a if they choose. So every year your team plays in the smaller class they are admitting there not good enough to play with the best and that they really are for class bball. Back to smaller schoolsa being worse. You must be the only person I have ever heard say playing inferior competition makes players better. Those smaller schools would rather have beaten Carmel in the sectional than win a second rate tourney. People used to have pride and weren't always looking to take the easy way out. Now for Butler, they were 13-9 and 6-5 in the Horizon in early Feb. so wins and losses before that were very sporadic.
