This Saturday Switzerland County will play tonight's Heritage Christian/Scecina winner at 10am at the Alexandria regional.
How Alexandria is in the southern half of the state is beyond me, but more important than that, why is the regional site so far from the center of the area that the teams are being drawn from? And, when Knightstown and Centerville are much closer to the site, why does SwitzCo get the 10am game?
I know Mapquest is imperfect, but it suggests a 147.34 mile trip (3 hours, 14 minutes) from high school to high school. Knightstown about 36 miles, Heritage Christian 41 miles, Scecina 52 miles, Centerville 63 miles.
I recognize that this particular regional is pretty spread out (not too many 2A teams in this area, especially in the middle) but when there'll be great facilities at Shelbyville, Greensburg, Batesville, Connersville all empty that weekend, why not use them?
I'm sure there are a couple other examples that might approach this, but at first glance this has got to be the longest trip to a regional for any team. Nothing like having to get on the bus at about 5am to go play your regional game! Hopefully they're getting to stay in a hotel the night before.

i have had the same question but also i realize that the ihsaa picks sites that are a central location for the majority of teams.......when u think about it, alexandria is just about as close as we could get......and think about other teams having to come down to southeast indiana..thats 2 to 3 hours for them but really being there two years ago when south ripley went, the facilities are great but i suggest u dont get one of the higher seats cause they arent great.

srradioboy, I hear what you're saying...as I admitted there aren't many 2A facilities that are centrally located in what could be considered the 'southeastern Indiana' 2A regional. But there's no way that you can consider Alexandria 'just about as close as we could get' when all four teams have to travel north to get there.
Nothing against Alexandria - like you, I've attended a recent regional there, and it's a great facility - but when other great facilities go unused I think choosing one that's centrally located makes more sense. Maybe it's a question for a different thread, but why can't they treat the regional round like the semi-states, and have 4A schools host some of the games for lower classes?

Right on eagle
Class basketball ruined a lot. I used to follow the tournement every year. Now I have no clue. Most of the state also has no clue and unless you know someone that is playing no one cares about the games.
Teams traveling to play in half empty gyms is the legacy of class basketball.

The IHSAA is run by morons! You see all their commercials about "will you be there to see me play" How about this, Playing a Tuesday night Sectional game in Bloomington, East Central travels 2 hours to the game that begins at 6. After a 1.5 hour game lets say get on the road back home at 8, back at school near 10 if they don't stop to feed the kids and then home at 10:30 or 11. There has to be a closer sectional for a team in very southeast corner of the state without going to Bloomington.
