As all you good football fans know, a good football player is good because he has excellent footwork and leverage. All the skills that also make for a great Westler. These two sports go hand in hand. Quickness and speed are also developed on the mat.

Really did not pay attention to wrestling until last year. Stepson plays football and last year was 1st year as a wrestler in 8th grade.
He moved up to the High School this year and yes, this sport is a very active sport. Look forward in going to see him wresle, even as a JV, for Franklin. Did not realize how much that the kids put into it but they sure do.

Hey grizzly, welcome to the chat board. Wrestling is without a doubt the most demanding of sports, and my second favorite. You have a good program a Franklin community and I know they need all the fan support. They had a tremendous team last year and lost a lot of seniors, but the will be back.

His is wrestling on reserve squad. Splitting alot of meets with 3 others in the Heavyweight Class. Winning about 50% of his matches, only draw back he is having, he is on the low end of the heavyweight class, weighs approx 225, I keep telling him think of the experience, and if he is able to drop to 215 next year, of how much wrestling the bigger guys will help him in the future.
And how it should be able to help him on the line for football.
Thanks for asking

Forgot to mention, Franklin should be able to move on past sectional. They should have a good shot at winning sectional.
Mid State meet was not all that great for us. Do have 1 or 2 Varsity wrestlers (state potentials) out for injuries right now. Hope they are back for sectionals though.

Yes tell your son, the lumps he's taking now will be a forgotten past next year. especially if he keeps his cardio workouts up thru the off season. 215 should be his goal. And DAD, you need to be an example of the way to get to that 215 mark. Eat right, walk, run three to four times a week, even when they don't want to. these little things they do in the off season reap big benefits during the season , in high school boys need a little motivation.

Wrestling season just ended with the team championships at Center Grove. Evansville MD beat Mishawaka in an exciting final. Concluding an all day single elimination of eight teams. Congratulations to MD ,as they had no Individual state champs in the state finals at Conseco the weekend before. If all you so called B-ball fans want to know what it is like to watch a state finals that crowns one state champ no matter what CLASS your in, then make plans for next years state finals at Conseco. You will go away AMAZED!

Southside, were you there all day? Took stepson to watch the all day and enjoyed all the meets. I expected Matre Dei to win, especially after seeing them at their tournament in December. A class program down there.
To keep you updated also, step-son is trying hard to get down to the 215 to fill the Varsity opening for next year. Yes I am trying to set an example, have a challenge for him to get to 210 and mine is to drop 40 pounds before start of Varsity Football Practice.

Yea grizzly I was there. Sat in the front row with the MD kids. If I'm in the state I always try to be there. Keep up the " get in shape routine" You or your step son won't regret it. Every one strives to beat MD. You know this is the second year in a row that MD didn't have a single state champ and still won the team championship. That tells you they really have a good program that has a good wrestler retention from freshman thru senior year. to keep the weight down Your step son needs to get into the open rooms (wrestling) as much as possible (have fun while working it off) This will keep him toned and make it easier for him to get ready for football next year. Later southside

He has already started on conditioning for the football season. If I remember right he is in the weight room 3 days a week. One of his electives for next year is weight conditioning, which should also help him tone up during football season.
I myself am required at work (fire dept) to do some type of workout for a minimum of 1 hour per shift. Try to do it at least for 1 1/2 to 2 hours every 3rd day.
One of these times I will have to see if you are at a certain event to meet you. We have already made plans to be in Evansville for MD's holiday classic this December.

Hey Grizz, I usually go to the North Montgomery tourney around the Holiday's, they have a great eight team dual tournament. I usually see MD in a five way with Jasper, Forest Park, Bloomington south,Castle. Then we usually go to Belmont(Decatur In.) and see Northern teams Mishawaka, Whitco. In between that Bo Henry classic at Bloomington North where I see Col. North , Southwestern and Lawrence Central and others. Lot of good wrestling.
