I am looking forward to Baseball season. In Dubois County Jasper returns 7 of eight position players and five of their top six pitchers. Southridge should have a killer pitching staff. Coach Howard at Forest Park said this could be his best team ever and Coach Kirchoff at NE Dubois maybe has the best senior class of the area

I have always been amazed at the high quality baseball that all four schools in Dubois County have played at. I go way back Walt being a fan of baseball there, back to the days of Jim Mehling pitching Forest Park to the Final Four back in the mid 70's. Yep, I'm getting to be an old fart. Watch out for Coach Greg Goegel's Crawford County team now and in the future. In one year, he turned that program around from habitual losers to conference champs. He does a fantastic job of teaching the game.

Dubois Co has great feeder programs, all of the individual town have great travel teams, with the exception of Ferdinand they are not very strong, but Ireland 2008 10U State Champs, and Jasper have great travel league teams, these kids start in January playing ball and continue on into fall ball, until some of the surrounding communities do the same they will dominate this area

You are right the feeder program at Jasper is something. They have the same coaches year in and year out and know if they are good enough they can get to Ruxer Field. That Ireland ten and under team was coached in part by Blake Krueger former Jasper and USI standout catcher. Blake is also an assistant on the Jasper HS Baseball team. Jasper native Scott Rolen donated 100,000 dollars to the new Jasper Youth Sports Complex. It is no accident they are successful year in and out. I do look forward to seeing Crawford County. They had not been very good in the past and the turnaround was amazing. Jaspers opener is next Tuesday at Bloomington South. It will be cold temp expected to be in the 30s but I am looking forward to getting the broadcast baseball season under way

Coach Werner was Coach Goberts mentor when Coach Gobert was finishing at IU. It has been a good rivalary and we have lost to South a couple of times we were State Champion. But it is always cold. One time we played there it was so cold we could not use the Bathrooms because the pipes were frozen. I am looking foprward to seeing you Tuesday. It is always good to go back to Bloomington. I enjoyed my time at IU and started my career working at WTTS in the Sports Department with Joe Smith
