I thought the whole purpose for review/re-play was to get the calls right. During the Indiana - Michigan game at a key time in the 4th quarter the officials just plain missed the call.
A pass which both player have the ball and are tied up all the way to the ground. The rule is this goes to the offense. The officials call this an interception, so they review it and confirm the wrong call. Even the ESPN announcers are making comments about how this was not right.
If they are not going to consider what the rule is for a play then what is the purpose for the review system? It just seems that the officials use this system to back up the call on the field more than to get the call right.
Now let me be clear on this, IU lost because they did not put enough points on the score board. Too many chances in the RED Zone was blown by IU. So this bad call did not cost them the game, however, it did not help and we'll never know what IU might have done in the final two minutes.
