Sectional 17 – This highly competitive sectional has five teams that have had solid regular season campaigns. After reviewing each teams regular season, Andrean appears to be the favorite going in. Hammond Clark has wins over both Glenn and Calumet but will be tested in it's opener against a Culver Academy squad that only lost to Northwood and Lafayette Central Catholic. However, it appears that the 49ers will prevail and move on to regionals.
Sectional 18 – The Jimtown Jimmies begin their first year in 3A as the favorites in another very highly competitive sectional. The path to the championship will be tough as they must open against a very underrated Mishawaka Marian team whose three loses were all to higher level competition. The Rochester Zebras will most likely be waiting with the winner meeting the survivor of a very tough upper bracket. Any of those four teams could be in the championship game against the Jimmies or Zebras. Northwood would be looking to avenge an opening night loss when a missed field goal in overtime cost them a chance to beat Jimtown.
Sectional 19 – Another highly competitive sectional highlighted by last years 3A state champions, the Bellmont Braves. The Eastbrook-Leo game is as good of an opening round match as there is in the state in any class. The winner gets the winner of the once beaten Norwell Knights against a Fort Wayne Harding team that could surprise here. Bellmont, who have struggled down the stretch, should make the championship game against the survivor of that tough upper bracket.
Sectional 20 – Unlike the previous three sectional, this one seems to be over before it begins. Trying to find someone who might be able to derail the West Lafayette Red Devils is a difficult assignment here. Perhaps Western could, nah, Red Devils are already looking at the Regional.
Sectional 21 – The Chartard Trojans start their journey to what they hope is another trip to Lucas Oil Stadium after getting upset by Evansville Memorial in last years semi-state. A review of the field here finds some good teams who have had outstanding years. Brebeuf and Southmont have both had fine seasons and would love to be able to stake claim to a sectional title, but this is Chatards' year, so the Trojans move on.
Sectional 22 – How did Hamilton Heights and Yorktown end up in a sectional with Batesville? The magic of realignment I guess. Unfortunately for both they are in a sectional with Batesville. Any other year they would have high hopes for a sectional title, but beating the unbeaten Bulldogs, who get a first round bye, will be a severe challenge. However, a Batesville-Chatard regional would be something to witness.
Sectional 23 – Heritage Hills should cruise to the championship game to face the survivor of another upper bracket loaded with good teams. All four teams have had good seasons with Indian Creek the most likely team to face the Patriots in the championship game.
Sectional 24 – Unlike Sectional 23, this sectional does not have a lot to chose from for not only a favorite but championship game match up. You can throw Pike Central, Princeton, Bosse, Gibson Southern and Vincennes Lincoln out and pick from the rest. That leaves Washington, Mt. Vernon (Posey) and last years state runner-up Evansville Memorial. Take the safe pick with the Tigers of Memorial High of Evansville.
