Sectional 25 – As has been the case the last two years, the Wheeler Bearcats are the favorites going into this sectional. However, being undefeated does not guarantee success as indicated by last years results. The Bearcats came into last years sectional unbeaten only to be upset in the first round by North Judson. I would not overlook the Bluejays this year as well as their record is a little deceiving. In addition, a very good Rensselaer Central team will be waiting in the championship game. The Bearcats will have to earn this sectional if they are to advance on.
Sectional 26 – The Falcons of Fairfield appear to be the favorites in this sectional. Some concern must be expressed however over the loss of their starting quarterback in the Angola game. Since that game they are 1-2, albeit against some pretty stiff competition. With that said, however, there just does not appear to be any serious challengers to them in this sectional. The Falcons should advance on to the regional.
Sectional 27 - Realingment has brought Ft. Wayne Luers into this sectional for the first time and even thought they bring a sub-.500 record, they still must be respected in this class. The Knights first round opponent is the very surprising Manchester Squires, who put together a very good season with only a road loss to Rochester as a blemish on their record. The winner should face the winner of the Madison-Grant and Winchester semi-final game in the upper bracket. The Argylls appear to have played the better schedule with their only losses coming to 4A Marion and unbeaten 3A power Eastbrook. This sectional is wide open with any of the listed teams capable of winning the championship.
Sectional 28 – If all goes as it appears, this sectional is set up to have some pretty interesting second round games. Tipton and Lewis Cass should both win their openers which will set up a very interesting match up in the second round. Tipton has not lost to a 2A team all year with one loss coming to very highly regarded 3A West Lafayette. Lewis Cass, last years 2A state finalist, have won five straight since starting the season 1-3. One of their losses was to West Lafayette with another being to 1A top rated Pioneer. Northwestern should emerge from the lower bracket but they had a hard time with Cass when Cass was struggling, so a rematch would not seem to be favorable to them.
Sectional 29 - The only sectional with two defending state champions involved, this sectional should generate quite a lot of excitement in Central Indiana. The move up to 2A has not seemed to slow the Raiders of Ritter High School down as they compiled a 8-1 season, with only a loss to 3A Brebeuf to mar an otherwise undefeated season. Included in those eight wins is a season ending victory over the other defending state champion, the Eagles of Heritage Christian. Although Heritage Christian has enjoyed a good season, it seems difficult when reviewing their year that they can win this sectional, much less defend their state crown. Centerville should be meet Ritter in the final game as Winchester does not appear strong enough to challenger Centerville in the semi-finals based on their earlier meeting.
Sectional 30 – North Putnam appears to have gotten the break in the draw as they should advance to the final game before meeting a quality opponent. All the strength is in the upper bracket with South Vermillion, South Putnam and Monrovia. Monrovia has the easiest route of the three as they should move past Cloverdale in a rematch of a game won by Monrovia 50-0 earlier in the year. South Vermillion is the wild card in the sectional. The Wildcats have only a loss to 4A Northview and that was only a six point loss at that. They should get past South Putnam to face Monrovia in a great second round game, with the winner taking on North Putnam for the right to move on.
Sectional 31 – Before awarding the sectional by default to the Paoli Rams, one must consider at least two other very good squads in this sectional. The Tigers of Triton Central and perennial power Brownstown Central will have a say in the outcome of this sectional before it is settled. Paoli will most likely face both on it's road to the title. There is no disputing that the Rams are a very good football team but a review of both Triton Central and Brownstown Central reveal two teams that have very good seasons. The Tigers have losses to defending 2A State Champ Heritage Christian, unbeaten 3A power Indian Creek and 1A power Milan, although the spread in the Milan loss is alarming. Brownstown Central, a perennial sectional contender, has two losses to 3A schools and an overtime loss to Seymour, a 4Aschool. In the end, it will most likely be the Paoli Rams but not in walkover.
Sectional 32 – With Evansville Mater Dei not quite up to par this season, perhaps it is the year that South Spencer can breakthrough for a sectional championship. Although the Rebels have dropped their last two games, those losses have come against two very good teams, 3A Heritage Hills and 4A Boonvilee in very close games. The Rebels have beaten three of the teams in this sectional in conference play and should be able to get past the Southridge-North Posey winner in the championship.
