Sectional 33 – Winamac appears to be the dominant team in this sectional with an impressive 8-1 mark coming into tournament play. That loss was to top ranked Pioneer in a game that the Warriors trailed 7-0 at halftime. They will most likely meet traditional power Whiting in the championship game as the Oilers appear to be the only team who can stop the Warriors march.
Sectional 34 – There are some who believe the 1A Championship game will be determined in the first round of this sectional. I am one of those. Both Pioneer and Lafayette Central Catholic have been dominant all year long. The Panthers of Pioneer have shutout five teams this year and only allowed 33 total points while scoring 457 points. As impressive as that is, the Knights of Lafayette Central Catholic have only allowed 10 points defensively while scoring 467 in an eight game schedule. Pioneer probably played the tougher schedule but it is hard to tell with both teams blowing the opponents out on a regular basis. South Newton will most likely get the winner in the championship game, hoping that it is not Pioneer, a team that beat them 69-7 in the third week of the year.
Sectional 35 – It looks like Churubusco and Southern Wells in the finals, but that was what everyone thought last year until Southwood completely dominated Churubusco in the semi-finals. I cannot see that happening again, and the much anticipated match up between the Eagles and Raiders should decide this one.
Sectional 36 – Not a lot to chose from here as only Knightstown has shown a propensity to play good football. Gosh, when Wes-Del has the third best record in the sectional, that does not say a a lot for the strength here. The Panthers should advance before being tested.
Sectional 37 – Gosh I miss Nick Zachary but probably not as much as the Sheridan fans do. The Blackhawks have experienced something unknown in the Zachary era, a losing season. However, I think that they can win this sectional. The reasoning is that no one else appears to be any better and I am a firm believer in Bud Wright. I know that Clinton Central beat Sheridan earlier in the season but feel that Sheridan is playing better and would win a rematch. That is provided that Clinton Central can get by a very determined Lapel squad in the semi-finals.
Sectional 38 – This sectional is Milans to lose. The Indians two losses to Batesville and Indian Creek, both unbeaten 3A schools not only bodes well for the sectional but for the entire tournament. This is a very dangerous team for any team that lines up against them in this tournament. Those two losses were by a combined 12 points. No one else in this field has shown the ability to compete with the Indians, so it is again, theirs to lose.
Sectional 39 – Rockville and Fountain Central appear destined to meet in the championship game of this sectional in a rematch of the final game of the season won by the Mustangs of Fountain Central 14-7. There is no another team in this sectional that appears ready to step up and contest this projection.
Sectional 40 – At the start of the year, this appeared to be one of the best sectionals in the state. It is still going to be a good one, but with North Knox, Linton-Stockton, and Tecumseh having sub-par years, it looks like the second round match up of North Daviess and Perry Central will determine the winner. North Daviess has been consistent all year and seems to be a team on a mission. Perry Central has had another banner year with only a season ending loss to unbeaten 2A power Paoli to mar their record. The winner will most likely face North Knox, a team that has appear to get better as the season progressed.
