I was wanting to hear any thoughts on something I was looking at the other day. I was looking online at the list of conference champions for the Big 8 and the PAC. It seems that during the 1980's and early 1990's the conferences were far more competetive (especially the Big 8). From 1980-1992 every school in the Big 8 except Mt. Vernon and Washington won or shared the conference at least once. During the same span in the PAC five different schools won or shared the conference (with three years in a row being the longest streak). Since 1993-1994 these conferences have been mostly dominated by just a couple of teams. Jasper and Vincennes in the Big 8 and Heritage Hills in the PAC. With a couple of exceptions of course.
I guess the assumption would be to give credit to those programs that have dominated the last several years, but I am curious on any thoughts as to the other schools. Has something happened to hurt the competitive chances at those other schools? Also, is this just in Southern Indiana or is this also a trend in the rest of the state?

One of the problems for many of these schools had been a decrease in the number of students enrolled

Speaking only for my Patriots of Heratige Hills, its been the comittment of the high school to work together all the way down to the 2nd graders that play. Its hard to keep that many people with different ideas on the same page. With we had another shot at Japer this year

In the case of the PAC, South Spencer, Southridge and North Posey have been and continue to be successful football programs year in and year out, with exceptions now and then.
Southridge's program speaks for itself if you check their tournament results from the last 10 or 15 years...... Both SR and NP have made state finals appearances not that long ago. SS has also had regular and post season success in the recent past.
However, Heritage Hills since the middle nineties have through hard work, improved overall coaching and being fortunate enough to have some very talented players such as Jay Cutler etc. elevated themselves to another level during this period. Overall the PAC is even stronger than before.
