I think he has proven without a doubt that he was the best player in Indiana for 2008, and should have won Mr. Basketball that year

Definately a great player! And representing the the state of Indiana GREAT! But that conference vs ACC competition, thats like 4A vs 2A in Indiana. What kind of stats would players like Calbert Chaney and Damon Bailey had in that environmnet

Actually, the defense is probably better in the Horizon league. That coupled with a slower paced game means those guys stats would probably go down. I personally don't think Major versus mid-major is anywhere close to the gap thats between 4a and the rest of the classes. Hayward also showed his abilities by being the leading scorer on his USA national team.

Then outgows the arguement of 1,2 or 3A vs 4A. There is no gap in college basketball? How many National Champions have come from the automatic bids from the Mid Majors, I would love to see Butler win a National Champioship it would be awesome! But getting past Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Syracuse and so on!

I never said there wasn't any gap; its just not as great as you think it is. Did Cleveland St. not hammer Wake Forest in the tourney last year. Butler lost by 1 point to Florida when Florida played for the national championship. Did North Carolina not lose to George Mason in their final four year. Usually one of the top teir teams is head and shoulders above the rest but the majority of the BCS schools aren't that much better than most of the mid-majors. The NBA is littered with mid-major players who have turned out to be some of the best in the history of the league. Larry Bird, Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, John Stockton, Ron Harper, Dennis Rodman, Ben Wallace, Doug Collins, and Julius Erving just to name a few.

The difference between majors and mid-majors must not be that great, at least they haven't started any new NCAA tournaments just so the mid-majors can claim national championships.

He is good and on a great team that i hope can beat some top teams this year but i still dont think they could compete in the big 10 let alone the acc or big east i mean they have no big man at all. So you cant compare them to those teams either because they cant get the top recruits like duke, unc kentucky, or memphis just to name a few. Also on the mr. basketball thing there is no question tyler should have been mr. basketball i mean won a state title even if it was in the so called worse class he still got one. Also led the state in scoring with about 32 pts per game and had about 10 rebounds per game.

I thought Haywards team won the 4a title with him getting a last second put back in the championship game.

Almost forgot, Howard was recruited by most teams in every BCS conference but chose to go to Butler anyway. Butler is rated in the top 25 so how can you say they couldn't compete in the ACC or Big Ten. I think they just beat Ohio St.

Yes they did beat ohio state but if turner was in the game i would have to think ohio state would have won. I still dont think they could compete in the acc, big 10, or big east. I love butler i really do but year in and year out and even this year if they were in one of those conferences they would probably be towards the middle at best. I mean purdue, mich. st., wisconsin, unc, duke, pitt, uconn those types of teams it just wouldnt be fair for butler. They could stand a chance in the tourny because anyone can beat someone once but not twice or beat two or three good teams in a row.
Also Hayward is a great player and maybe he was recruited by some top schools, but i would think that he would have went to a purdue or iu if he got those offers i mean purdue plays the perfect style for him. I doubt he got any offers from duke or unc or those types. Not saying he couldnt play for them maybe he could but we will never know now.
