What a great day of high school football yesterday. The triple-header was a fan's utopia as three of our state schools welcomed the challenge of three out of state schools. The first game was a match-up between Pickerington Central of Columbus Ohio against Plainfield. Pickerington Central is a very good football team with great offensive balance and a stifling defense. Last years team was defeated in their state tournament by the eventual Div. 1 (Large school) champion Hillard Davidson. Early on it looked like Plainfield might be able to hang with them, but PC's strength eventually turned the tide and by the third quarter it was apparent that they were not in the same class as the visitors from Ohio, eventually losing by a score of 38-0. The second game featured Indianapolis Cathedral playing the Flyers from East St. Louis (IL). For those of you who have never seen the Flyers play, they can best be described as a track meet in pads. Scoring four touchdowns on plays exceeding 70 yards, the Flyers were able to hold off the Fighting Irish, 31-22. The nightcap can only be described as the type of game most fans only witness occasionally. Cleveland Glenville, the biggest team I have ever saw, took on the host Warriors of Warren Central. The teams battled back and forth with Glenville's great quarterback Cardale Jones scoring on a quarterback keeper with 11.9 seconds to lift the Tarblooders to the 28-21 victory. With these three games and all the televised national match ups, it finally feels like the season has begun.
